Letters to Electra - SKIPPING IS DEADLY!

27/8/14

Dear Electra,

Today Gwen sprained her knee by attempting to skip in P.E. She was put on a stretcher and rushed to the nurse's office. Regina and most of my class saw the scene when Gwen was being carried to the sick bay and Regina told me immediately at music. This sense of nervousness entered my brain once I knew. I really wanted to visit my best friend so I spent my lunch at the sick bay with her and my other friend. Gwen was sitting on the bed still in her P.E gear. I saw her leg support and her knee looked really swollen. She told me the long story of how her class supported her, the doctor coming in and how embarrassed she felt when she was being carried away on the stretcher.
Flash forward to the end of the school day. I was walking home until Gwen was outside the sick bay, still in her P.E gear. She told me that her dad wasn't going to pick her up until possibly 4:00 so we stood on the lawn where the students get picked up from until her dad came.Even though I got home late today and was growled at, it was definitely worth staying with her until she actually left because I felt like I helped someone important today.

*The next day (Thursday)
Gwen came to school today even though she was staggering like a pirate. At interval she tripped on a stick and lost balance but gained pain. Where we were at the end of the field was far away from the nurse's office, so she had to hold onto my bag and we both staggered all the way to the student reception. At lunch I visited the nurse's office and asked where Gwen was. The nurse told me that she was already sent back to class. As I exited the student reception I saw and ran to her. Gwen told me how she was given medicine for her knee and felt better right away. She also mentioned that she was going to see a physician soon.

*The next day (Friday)
My best friend wasn't staggering much as she used to and was feeling much better. It was my turn to get hurt. At P.E today I tried to do a belly flop on the mats but landed on the mat and flipped causing my neck to nearly break.
"Are you alright?" my classmate asked.
"Oosh. That must've hurt." another classmate said.
I got up quickly and said, "I'm fine. I didn't break any bones."
"Well, don't do that again. That stunt looked dangerous." was what the same classmate who asked if I was alright said.
I was so glad that I didn't actually damage any part of my body. Like what Gwen said, "At least you don't have to wear a neck brace."

Love you, Gwen!

Letters to Electra - Fortituious Fall

19/08/14

Dear Electra,

I HAVE CREATED A MAGICAL PORTAL!
By magical, you might be thinking of wizards, spells and using your powers to fight good and evil. You are a little bit right, but it is a mathematical portal.
If you enter it, you will meet Stephen Hawking, who will give you a tour in the history of mathematics. The tour will take you to the construction of the pyramids in Ancient Egypt, the inventing process of harps in Ancient Greece and the Great Depression in the USA.

On the opposing subject, I HAVE CREATED AN ENGLISH PORTAL ALSO!
If you enter it, you will be guided by William Shakespeare. He will take you through classic authors' lives by visiting Louisa May Alcott in juvenile hall, the Brontë sisters and their struggle of being female writers and Charles Dickens developing the characters and stories we've always loved. Out of the two, which portal are you willing to pick? I'd pick the mathematical portal because it's my favourite subject to learn about at school.

As I walked to school this morning I was extremely shocked at how heavy the rain fell. There were puddles everywhere: my backyard, other people's driveways, and culs-de-sac. My class looked out of the window from our classroom to find teachers struggling out of the flooded cul-de-sac and getting sucked by the drain below the water. Some of my classmates laughed, but I felt bad for them because laughing at people struggling is not a way to live life. The rain ruined our choir performance for assembly today, as the gym/auditorium is flooded. Instead of assembly, the school has a free period to stay in their form classrooms and do whatever the teacher tells. Apparently, for Gwen's class, they spent the free period doing a maths test. I'd say lucky for them, but I think it's inappropriate since they hated the test.

Letters to Electra - Scrabble, You Say?

13/08/14

Dear Electra,

There's exactly one month left until my birthday! Aah, the big 13. I have talked about this topic so many a time, and felt like I'm over-exaggerating about it. But thinking about it, I am very excited to meet the teenage world. Feeling pretty proud of myself for reaching this checkpoint.

Eleanor got locked inside the toilet and it was the most distressing situation I have experienced this year so far. As I heard her scream, I was on the verge of shedding a tear. Eventually, while I was calling dad from the garage, Eleanor unlocked herself and everyone went back to whatever they were doing before.

This morning as the 'teacher'* read the notices to the class, she mentioned two words: 'Scrabble' and 'club'. The whole class giggled at the idea and, nerd alert, I screamed, "there's a Scrabble club?" and gasped. My classmates who sat nearby looked at me with a face that translated into, "what's Scrabble and why are you so excited for it?" they should know by now that I grow with excitement whenever something I'm interested in pops up into a conversation; it's the third school term for goodness sake! I forgot to mention that I'm one of the two people who actually like school in my class, so that means I am OBSESSED with anything academic.

* = In apostrophes because my real form teacher let my classmate be form teacher for today. It's a very complicated sequence, Electra.

Letters to Electra - Anomaly

6/08/14

Dear Electra,

Being back at school even after one day is new to me. I still feel dizzy from yesterday and I can't look at bright things like the blue sky, otherwise I will flinch.

As I have a wandering mind I have just thought about maths class. Last week I asked my teacher about finishing the maths challenge she had given us next lesson, and she said yes, but fast forward to today and we still haven't done it. We don't have maths tomorrow so I cannot beg to finish it. I HAVE ANSWERED A QUESTION WRONG AND I'VE JUST REALISED IT AND I NEED TO FIX IT, MISS!

Sewing machines are difficult to deal with. I have never dealt with one in my entire life until I started my textiles class. They didn't teach us how to use a sewing machine before letting us start on our trial stitches. Gwen has also never stitched with a sewing machine before, and I am so glad I am not alone. Luckily, my parents have bought a sewing machine during the weekend and have been teaching me how to sew. It's completely different to the machines we use a school, so I guess I must watch videos of random people using Bernina. Saturday night sorted.
